The
Sukhothai
Historical Park covers the ruins of old Sukhothai 
        - capital of the
Sukhothai kingdom in the 13th and 14th centuries
         - in the north of Thailand. It is
located near the modern city of Sukhothai. 
        
        The city
walls form a rectangle with a gate in the centre of each wall. 
        
        nside
are the remains of the royal palace and twenty-six temples
        - Wat
Mahathat is the largest. The park is a UNESCO, World Heritage Site 
        
        and
is visited by thousands of tourists each year 
        
        to see the ancient Buddha
statues, palace buildings and temple ruins.
