Photographs, route description and map of a circular country walk from Torrance Village to Lennox Forest via Mealybrae and returning by the Right of Way from Lennoxtown at Muirhead Farm

This walk is a circular walk from the village of Torrance to the high ground which borders onto Lennox Forrest.
It is a varied walk of about ﬁve miles and three hours duration with a good walking surface on the quiet country lanes but requires good footwear on some of the well worn paths.
The walk starts from the parking bay next to the ScotMid Co-op, opposite the war memorial in Torrance Main Street.
It heads north passing the trafﬁc lights into West Balgrochan Road.
It then passes School Road and West Acre Park on the right, Wardend Road on the left, before continuing onto Barraston Road as it swings round to the left and heads for the open country.
This is a reasonably quiet country road with many interesting and attractive cottages, refurbished farms and small holdings.
It also displays, after climbing a short hill, the warning notice, ‘Keep Out, Danger Deep Water’, at the entrance to a short path which leads to an unusual ﬁshing pond created out of a rock-face quarry.
Leaving the pond, the walk continues on Barraston Road, turns right into Tower Road ( unsigned ) and passes by more attractive farm houses with views over ﬁelds towards the north of Glasgow.
At the crossroads, the walk turns right onto Mealybrae Road, ( unsigned, opposite Glenorchard Road ) and after the farm cottage on the left starts a steep climb up a narrow rough stone path, Mealybrae.
Take care on this climb as the path and stones can often be wet especially after heavy rain.
At the top, the walk crosses a stile onto the left of the path to avoid the wet/mud area. The surface changes to a stone/grass path which swings right and then left before it crosses another stile to enter a rough stone track at the side of the forest.
The views looking back and on turning right at the next t-junction provide a wonderful panorama of the town areas from north Glasgow to the start of East Dunbartonshire and on a good day you can see for many miles over the south side of Glasgow.
Continuing on the forest track where the walk passes a low barrier and follows the sign to Lennoxtown.
On the left are the towering Campsie Fells, ahead are impressive views of East Dunbartonshire towns and to the South is the distant Tinto Hill .
The walk turns right at the side of Muirhead Farm and follows the sign, ‘Footpath to Torrance‘, through a kissing gate and onto a narrow path down the side of a ﬁeld.
It then continues between a fence and burn where great care should be taken as it can be difﬁcult to negotiate due to the soft muddy ground underfoot and overhanging tree branches.
As it is a right of way path its poor condition has been brought to the attention of the council and it is to be hoped that it will be made more manageable in the future for the use of walkers.
At the bottom, the walk crosses a wooden bridge over the burn and follows the fence round the side of the ﬁeld to enter a narrow fenced path through a kissing gate. It continues through further kissing gates to reach the road at Upper Carlesmun Farm, turns right and proceeds downhill to pass the road on the right leading to Langshot Farm.
There are other interesting mansions, small holdings and cottages to pause at on the next stretch of road before finally turning left onto West Balgrochan Road and retracing ones steps into the village and back to the start.
