West Highland Way MILNGAVIE

Milngavie is the start  of the 95 miles West Highland Way  footpath to Fort William.  A granite obelisk in the town centre  marks the starting point of the route.

This three-faced clock was originally a feature of the Copland and Lye department store in Sauchiehall Street, Glasgow  and given to Milngavie Town Council. It was restored and re-erected  in the town centre  in 1981.

War Memorial The memorial was originally erected  in 1922 in Douglas Gardens. The figure and panels are of bronze and the pedestal is of granite.   The inscription reads:- "In proud and loving memory of our men  who made the supreme sacrifice in the Great War.  Nobly they kept alight the lamps of liberty."
