Makalu ( 8463m ) above Shershon

one of the the world's fourteen 8000ers
and the world's 5th highest mountain.

Makalu was first climbed
 by a French expedition in 1955.

The ascent route on the NW ridge
 is mostly snow and ice averaging 50 degrees
 until the summit gully which is some 65 degrees.
