Zhongdian ( Shangri La ) in the NW of Yunnan Province The
name Shangri La comes from the novel 
      "The Lost Horizon" by James Hilton. Shangri La was a fictional, hidden paradise where the inhabitants lived for centuries. Zhongdian was renamed Shangri La for commercial tourism purposes. The old town is similar to Lijiang but on a smaller scale. From Lijiang to Shangri La is some 4 hours by bus.  |
